Dell Is Coming After Microsoft With A Detachable XPS 2-in-1

Dell Is Coming After Microsoft With A Detachable XPS 2-in-1

Dell is reportedly bringing a new detachable 2-in-1 Windows computer to market soon, and unlike previous ones, this will launch as part of the XPS line. Dell has multiple PC product lines targeted at various demographics. Its XPS series is designed for creators, the Latitude and Vostro series are targeted at professionals and business owners, and the Inspiron series is for the average user who needs a PC for social media, emails, and streaming.

There is also the Precision series which is targeted at the business class, with these portable workstations packing more power than the Latitude series. Those who need a PC for gaming can always take a closer look at the Alienware and G-series, both of which are primarily designed with gamers in mind.

The upcoming 2-in-1 detachable will run Windows and will be the first tablet in the Dell XPS series. Images of the 13-inch device, which is referred to as the XPS 9315t, were shared online by Evan Blass (via 91Mobiles). Details spotted from the photos show the tablet will have a metal build, most likely aluminum. The sides are flat and the display is surrounded by bezels of equal thickness. Dell has also placed a single protruding camera on the back while the front is home to an array of sensors, most likely for Windows Hello face authentication.

The leaked photos also provide a look at the keyboard cover (which has a trackpad) and a stylus that looks like the Dell Active Pen. Although the specifications are still unknown, the Dell XPS 9315t will have two USB-C ports which should support Thunderbolt 4. However, unlike Lenovo’s Chromebook Duet 5 and its USB-C port on either side, Dell’s ports are on the same side and next to each other. There is also a visible slot on the left which might be for a SIM card, hinting at LTE or even 5G connectivity.

When Dell announces its new computer, it will be going up against the Surface Pro 8 and IdeaPad Duet 5i that launched at MWC 2022. There is also the Huawei MateBook E which is slightly smaller at 12.6 inches but packs a gorgeous OLED display. Although it isn’t sold in the US, unlike Microsoft and Lenovo’s tablets, Huawei has announced availability in Europe and the UK, making it an alternative to Dell in these regions. Those who don’t want a Dell or Windows computer in general also have the option of going with the M1-powered iPad Pro or waiting for the new model that’s expected to launch with a more powerful M2 processor later this year.
